Senior Java Developer Walmart

Walmart is the largest among top 500 global corporations, the retail giant. In order to expend retail business and seek for new point of growth, since 2000, Walmart Global eCommerce department established, specifically doing online retail business with more than 1500 employees, the annual sales achieved over 3 billion dollars, become the second largest ecommerce website(walmart.com) next to Amazon.com. The headquarter locates in Brisbane of America, sets branch departments in India, China, Canada and Japan, all the branches cooperate with each other to develop Walmart.com, to form Global Ecommerce Eco-System. Its online system is based on Java, using cloud computing(hadoop/MapReduce/HDFS), large-scale distributed system, and super large cluster with more than 2000 servers. I am in the Store Service Team, in charge of developing and maintaining modules of StoreFinder, Pharmacy, Gift Registry, Music Download, Photo, and Market Place.

Responsibilities and Achievements

• Apply Restful SOA design principal to develop system “SCA - Snapfish Configuration Tool”, this system can help the system to dynamically adjust the parameters of Snapfish platform without rebooting the whole online system, profoundly improves the stability and robustness of the system, to make the time of daily reboot decrease from 20 minutes to 0. For such online system with super high PV, service offline means loss of online order, and this system largely helps to increase the High Availability.

• Develop and integrate Project "Bing Map Service Replacement", use Bing Map to replace the MapQuest as 3rd party map service provider, provides services such as point2point time/distance estimation, shipping distance/price calculation, routine search etc.

As the team leader, mainly in charge of:

• Demand analysis, scenario analysis, and dataset analysis.

• Technology selection for the product.

• Internal members training.

• Task assignment and coordination.

• Framework building, typical four-tier framework.

• Design of persistence layer.
